| Implementation at Indian Railways |
|
In order to strengthen the security, Railways have taken initiates by implementing the latest technology Video Surveillance solutions in its major stations. The solution currently implemented in three stations in Southern Railway enables them to stream Live Video over the Wide Area Network(WAN) using the Railnet. This is the first time, Railways have chosen a IP based Surveillance for its surveillance applications. The IP enabled Network Video Cameras are installed in Trivandrum, Trichur and Eranakulam stations on its computer network and the video streams are recorded on a Computer Server using software application.
The Cameras are assigned with the IP address, are capable of delivering Live Video streams over the computer network which are viewable using any standard Web Browsers. These cameras can be viewed from remote locations like Divisional Offices and Railway Headquarters by connecting the local network to the Railnet (WAN network of Railways). The cameras and recording software solutions are provided by OneView Systems Private Limited and are implemented by Pracoss Technologies Private Limited. The OneView CMS software implemented along with the Network cameras provides the features of scheduled recording, mobile viewing and much more. The Technology Contradictory to the conventional CCTV, the cameras are the only Surveillance specific hardware which makes the implementation, maintenance and scalability simpler. The Applications IP Advantage
The Software
The recording is configured using OneView CMS software installed on a computer system and is provided to the RPF for regular monitoring.OneVew CMS software is a browser based client-Server application which is configured with scheduled recording. By defining the user groups and users, the viewing security is configured as per the Railway security standards. The software provides multiple camera views on a single screen and the software installation at Divisional Headquarters shall be able to view all stations over the Railnet connectivity.
The software server when connected to the Internet provides live video streams to the Mobile devices like Mobile Phones / PDA using GPRS connectivity.
Implementation
Each Station is provided with one Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) camera and 4 Nos of Fixed focus cameras. The PTZ cameras are capable of 360 degrees horizontal rotation and 100 degree vertical tilt, which can be controlled from the viewing station using software icons. The cameras have motorized optical zoom which enables to provide zoomed views of almost 250 -300 meters. The PTZ camera placed on the middle of main platform provides a clear view of entire platform length and be zoomed to any specific point while monitoring. The fixed focus cameras are provided at the Entry/Exit gate, Ticket counters and at reservation counter.
Recording of 5 cameras in each stations are configured locally and regular back-up of the recorded files will be archived for future reference. The viewing stations are provided for Railway Reserve Police for continuous monitoring.
Connectivity
The cameras are connected to LAN using the mix of OFC and CAT5 cables. The OFC cabling is done at locations which are more than 60 meters of distance and short distance connections are made using CAT5 cables. The networking accessories like LAN converters, switches are deployed where ever necessary at the OFC & Copper termination points. Platforms across the Railway lines are connected using the available Optic Fibre Cables provided by Railways. The cameras can also be connected to wireless Network for video transmission. The network is designed in the same standards of the data network. The bandwidth requirements varies with the number and the file compression of the cameras. As a standard, the camera uses 256 – 800 kbps depending on the file compression, image size and fps configurion.
